Zombie Infestation: Strain 116 - Game of the Day
The (un)deadly virus called Strain 116 has turned everyone at the “The Shelter” into brain-sucking zombies. With only a single light source, your mission is to explore the twisting corridors of the 5-floor facility in search of the “The Carrier,” a creature responsible for the infestation that must be destroyed.
Welcome to Zombie Infestation: Strain 116, a top-down corpse-shooter with some interesting twists. Developer FlashGameRookie has incorporated random map generation, meaning that each time you play, items, weapons, collectibles, rooms and hallways are laid out differently. Even the location of “The Carrier” will change with each playthrough.
As you progress to the lower levels of the (ironically named) “Shelter,” you’ll need to gather stronger weapons to contend with more resilient (and numerous) enemies. You can also toggle between a lantern which creates a soft light-radius around the hero, and a flashlight, which produces a brighter, focused beam that extends further into the darkness.
Your mileage may vary when it comes to the zoomed-out view. I personally think that the tiny character and zombies contribute nicely to the minimalistic look and feel of the game, but some may find the action a bit… tiny. The game also might be too lengthy for some to finish. Level randomization is a cool idea, but with 125 separate maps, it won’t be long before you’re wishing there were some set-piece areas to break things up. Repawning zombies are also present, which keeps the action flowing; however, with the large number of random maps, it can be hard to tell if you’re covering previously-explored territory.
Whether you’re just killing time between sessions of Resident Evil 5, or just want to cap some undead, Zombie Infestation: Strain 116 might be just the thing you need.
