Fury Officer - Game of the Day
Let’s be honest - not everyone loves his job. It may even seem like a Herculean effort not to unleash an epic can of Whoopass on your boss and co-workers by the time Friday rolls around. If this sounds familiar, or if (like me) you just like good “beat-em-ups,” Fury Officer, developed by MoFunZone, is going to punch your time card.
The setup is pretty basic: Red-headed employee gets yelled at repeatedly by his boss. Employee snaps and proceeds to kick some serious butt. Things get strange.
Each level is basically a 2D battlefield. In most cases, you’ll need to simply pummel every last enemy that appears. These levels are punctuated by a few boss fights, as well as a couple of instances where you’ll have to survive a never-ending onslaught for a certain amount of time.
Button-mashers, rejoice! For better or worse, “precision” is not a word that describes Fury Officer’s battle system. You’ll quickly discover that manic jumping and attacking is the “strategy du jour.” In-between levels, you can upgrade your character in numerous ways – like increasing health or counter-attack power. Every few levels you’ll also earn a special move, although figuring out how to trigger these moves can be daunting in the heat of combat.
The visual presentation is quite good, and large variety of enemy types is very impressive. At first, you’ll be fighting janitors, security guards, and other office workers; however, it won’t be long before you’re going toe-to-toe with robotic scorpions, giant dogs, and mechanical penguins. Yes, it’s pretty freaking weird.
Fury Officer isn’t a perfect game. In addition to some minor bugs, you might experience a little slowdown when there are a ton of enemies onscreen. That said, it’s a fun way to blow off some steam, and is certainly worth playing.
