Mighty Red Orb of Eternal Power - Game of the Day
Mighty Red Orb of Eternal Power (with three white balls gravitating around it), is one of those games that will simultaneously test your patience and keep you coming back for more. Developed by Hristo Atanasov of RatherRandomReality, Mighty Red Orb will truly test your wits and reflexes (though not always in equal measures).
The game is comprised of 16 different levels, spread across 4 worlds, and is similar to Kable Monck’s game, Evito Ball. In each level, your objective is to activate the exit portal and escape before time (or your health) runs out. You’ll need to avoid touching walls and traps, both of which will rapidly kill you. You’ll also have the option to collect a green gem in each level for extra points, but be forewarned – collecting the gem and making it to the exit in time can be quite difficult. The “Mission Failed” screen will taunt (and motivate) you, whenever you die.
Other than having an extremely long title, Mighty Red Orb includes some new mechanics. Chief amongst the game’s most interesting features is the ability to fire off the white orbs orbiting the ball to deform the surrounding terrain. This gameplay aspect is not only well implemented, but its use is critical to some of the puzzle-solving. You won’t always have a clear path to your goal, and sometimes you’ll need to make your own.
Mighty Red Orb of Eternal Power isn’t the toughest game around, but it’s up there. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but does just enough right and new to infect you with “one more round” syndrome.
